You're handed a project with vague requirements and busy stakeholders. How do you start?
Show a repeatable opening: find the sponsor's intended outcome, map the stakeholders, run short structured sessions, play back what you heard.
Which techniques do you use to capture requirements — user stories, use cases, process maps — and how do you choose between them?
Fit the artefact to the audience: stories for agile teams, process maps for operations, use cases for complex logic. One example of switching mid-project.
Walk me through how you'd map an as-is process and find the problems in it.
Observe the real work, not the official version — then look for handoffs, rework loops and waiting. Name the notation you'd use (BPMN or plain swimlanes).
How do you manage and document scope changes once a project is underway?
A lightweight but real change process: log it, assess impact, decide with the right owner, communicate. Show it catching one scope creep in the act.
Tell me about a stakeholder who wouldn't engage. How did you get what you needed?
Diagnose before chasing: too busy, threatened, or burned before? Show you adapted the ask to their world and made engaging easy.
Describe a time the stated requirement wasn't the real need.
The BA's signature story. Show the questions ('what would that let you do?') that surfaced the underlying need, and the better solution it unlocked.
Tell me about a recommendation you made that the business initially resisted.
Evidence plus empathy: show you understood the resistance, strengthened your case with data, and either won them over or genuinely updated.
How do you validate that a delivered solution actually meets the original business need?
Traceability from need to acceptance criteria to test, plus benefits review after go-live. Most candidates stop at UAT — going further stands out.
Why business analysis — what do you enjoy about being the bridge?
Translate 'I like variety' into something sharper: the satisfaction of turning confusion into a plan people agree on. Give one moment you felt it.
