The questions to expect
Tell me about a call where the person clearly wanted rid of you — and you turned it into a conversation.
Voice is your whole toolkit: show the tone change, the question that hooked them, and how the call actually ended. Real dialogue beats theory.
What's the objection you hear most often, and tell me about a time you got past it.
Pick 'not interested' or 'no budget' and show your actual response — acknowledge, question, reframe — in the words you'd genuinely say.
Tell me about hitting a tough daily or weekly target. How did you structure the day to get there?
Know your numbers: calls per day, conversion rate, sales per week. Show the discipline — power hours, best call windows — that made the target.
Describe your worst run of calls — a whole shift of no's. What did you do on the next shift?
Every interviewer knows the bad-shift feeling. Show your reset: a break, replaying one call for lessons, then dialling again. No drama, just habit.
Role-play: you've got twenty seconds of my attention on a cold call. Go.
Prepare an opener: name, company, one line of relevance, then a question that's easy to answer. Smile as you speak — it genuinely carries down the line.
How does selling to a business over the phone differ from selling to a consumer?
B2B: longer cycles, gatekeepers, value for the company. B2C: emotion, speed, one decision-maker. Show you adjust pace and language for each.
A prospect becomes aggressive and personal on a call. What do you do?
Stay calm, don't match the energy, close the call politely if it continues, log it and shake it off. Knowing when to end a call is a skill, not a failure.
Why phone-based sales? Plenty of people can't do this job for a week.
Be real: you like the pace, the volume of conversations, the instant scoreboard. One example of enjoying a high-pressure phone environment seals it.
Diallers and AI assistants now queue your calls and draft your notes. How do you keep the human bit — the conversation — sharp?2026
Show you let the tech do admin so your energy goes into listening. Mention reviewing your own call recordings — self-coaching is rare and impressive.
Walk me through your numbers in your last role — target, attainment, average deal size.
Know your figures cold and say them plainly: quota, % attainment, deal size, cycle length. Hesitation here costs more than a modest number does.
Role-play: sell me this pen — or a product you know well.
Don't pitch features. Ask two or three questions about my needs first, then sell to what I told you. Close by asking for something specific.
Role-play: I'm a prospect who's agreed to a 15-minute call. Run your discovery.
Spend most of the time asking open questions and listening. Dig into pain, impact and timeline, summarise back, then agree a concrete next step.
